A dark, wet & dreary Friday night.
The perfect end to a dark, wet, dreary week.
I have a self-diagnosed impending flu like illness with an ETA of tomorrow am (just in time to ruin my weekend)!
My ‘To Do’ list winks at me from an app on my iPhone.
For some inexplicable reason, I never get to the end of that ‘To Do’ list & it grows from week to week.
I foolishly thought that if I paid for a colour coded app that my productivity would soar 😂 LOL!
The sad truth is that I have exactly zero interest in ticking off any job on that stupid list & that LOL 😂 reminds me of what I really want to do right now.
Just between us, I really (nay desperately) want to turn on Netflix & watch Nailed It.
I love the irreverent, politically incorrect, flirtatious Nicole Byer who hosts the cooking show where ordinarily mortals try to bake sinful, sugar laden cakes in a 😂 LOL bake off.
Something about this show reduces me to LOL tears.
There is a huge difference between laughing & ‘laugh out loud’ tears.
LOL tears are the best for sure!
At the end of binge watching Nailed It, I am in love with life again & my impending flu has vamoosed!
This makes me wonder if laughter therapy is an actual thing?
I checked PubMed & found 97 publications relating to therapeutic laughter or humor!
All of the publications suggest that there is some benefit in laughter including in hypertension, diabetes. memory, learning, stress, anxiety, asthma & cancer.
There was also one study which suggested that humor could increase natural killer cell activity which (although not proven) is postulated to enhance protection against infection.
Could this be why my deadly flu disappeared?
The only side effect reported was in people with chronic obstructive airways disease who laughed out loud who seemed to have an impairment in their lung expansion.
How fantastic! Now I can justify watching Nailed It & feel good about LOL therapy!
Given the fact that it seems to work & has few side effects, maybe health facilities could consider showing comedy in the waiting rooms as opposed to endless & depressing news reels.
Physician, heal thyself 😂 LOL.
